Resumen *

Zero-order release kinetics refers to the process of drug release at a constant rate from a drug delivery device (i.e., the same amount of drug is released per unit time independently of the amount of drug remaining in the delivery system). After enough time, such a delivery system would lead to virtually constant drug concentrations in the biological media, resulting in improved safety, efficacy, and patient compliance. From an engineering perspective, however, decoupling the release rate from the amount of drug remaining in the device is challenging, especially for passive systems.
