Not everything recorded at archaeological sites is exactly what it seems. At two 19th and 20th century sites, Ewan I and II (Tierra del Fuego) and Fortín Otamendi (Buenos Aires), our study of animal bone remains and other aspects from the archaeological record connected to the study of ethnographical and historical sources has shown that our methodology is a poor tool for analyzing past social relationships and the real social meaning of a site.
