This text examines the Argentine Republic´s participation in the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition in Seville, analyzing the construction of national identity through a complex interplay of visual and textual discourses. It focuses on the tension between the traditional portrayal of the Americas as a territory primarily defined by its natural resources and the efforts of figures such as Enrique Larreta and Martín Noel to project an image of Argentina characterized by intellectual and spiritual progress. Utilizing a framework that incorporates social art history and visual culture analysis, the study explores the dichotomy of nature and culture reflected in the Argentine Pavilion and its associated publications. A significant portion of the research is dedicated to a gendered perspective, investigating the abundance of female representations at the event and the specific role of women in the construction of a modern Argentine identity, both within the exposition´s context and through the broader influence of artists such as Anna Hyatt Huntington. By examining a diverse range of primary sources, including official records and ephemeral press materials, the work highlights the strategic reconfiguration of relations between Spain and its former colonies through the spectacle of the world´s fair.
