Resumen *

Considering all the presented data, we may conclude that, in general, protein malnutrition has asevere effect on the immune response of the host against helminth infections, aggravating the situ-ation for the host and even leading to its death in some cases. There are also negative effects ofmalnutrition for some helminth species, affecting their growth (i.e., Ascaris spp. and Schistosomaspp.). Regarding the immune response, protein malnutrition reduced effective type 2 responses in different helminth models, which correlated with a higher parasite burden, a higher presence of hel-minth stages over time, and an incomplete resolution of these infections. There is a need to continuestudying the immune mechanisms altered. In particular, the role of malnutrition during the initia-tion of the immune response against helminths requires further analysis.
