Resumen

In recent decades, the capacitated facility location problem has received a great deal of attention in the operations research literature due to its practical importance and mathematical complexity. In particular, several systems related to the provision of public services can benefit by adopting mathematical models for facility location to address the design or redesign of their networks. This is the case, for example, of the selection of Primary Health Care Center locations, also known as dispensaries in the Argentinean healthcare system. In this work, we propose a variant of the capacitated facility location problem aimed at maximizing the satisfied demand in different centers to be located. Additionally, a restriction on the maximum expected distance to be traveled by the client is included in the model, which, for some applications, may be a barrier to an effective access to the service. The formulation is implemented in GAMS platform and tested using a benchmark instance adapted from the literature. Two relevant objectives for this type of problems are analyzed: the demand coverage index and the total cost of the system, together with other performance indicators.
