Resumen

In this paper the relevance of the Supply Chain Management and its impacts on the national productive system is exposured. Also some guidelines are defined for the development and the promotion of Supply Chains considering the academic training of the Industrial Engineer. The problems in Supply Chain management, especially the stock and transport, significantly influence the competitiveness of companies in Argentina. Logistics costs significantly affect SMES business, representing 42% of the total sales. In forestry case, 30% of the FOB cost corresponds to logistics, that is between 3 and 4 times higher than in Brazil or Chile. The root of many of the current problems is the lack of support for decision making, support necessary for both: interpreting (or modeling) the situation and choosing the best decision to make (or optimize). Something necessary for the progress of the Supply Chain is to have adequate human resources and trained in the pertinent fields. In this context, the industrial engineer profile is detected as a suitable professional to meet these requirements, mainly, because of its scientific-technical training in industrial processes and, also, its management skills. Of these skills, Operations Research is of special significance because it provides tools for modeling and systems analysis for decision-making. Therefore, deepening the academic training of the industrial engineer in Operations Research in order to promote efficiency in the future management of the Supply Chain, is established as a guideline for undergraduate and graduate programs.
