Resumen

In most Industrial Engineering career plans, subjects related to Operations Research (OR) are included. OR is defined as a set of scientific tools that support decision making in planning activities in an organization. It has been applied extensively in many different areas such as manufacturing, transportation, services, among others, allowing to enhance practical efficiency in those fields. However, the excessive mathematical approach, often adopted by the teacher, dilutes the practical emphasis of this tool. This generates, on one hand, that students cannot take advantage of the valuable contribution that has this issue represents, and on the other hand, the teacher cannot share the potential scope of application. In this article, three teaching dynamics are explained to address and build a typical linear programming models in OR: the transport model and its variants, transshipment model and assignment model. These dynamics focus on participation and motivation of the students towards the subject from a case study of a company of transport of refrigerated products, a direct application in a local case of reverse logistics and an example of how OR can help to decision-making in a situation of interest to students (allocation of positions in a football team). In addition, as a strategy to promote student interaction with the class in a context of continuous learning, impacts of the inclusion of mandatory short questionnaires in practical classes are evaluated. The results obtained based on student´s participation and their own opinions expressed through surveys, show that the strategies used arouse interest in the topic and were considered relevant in the learning.
