Until the beginning of this millennium, no scientific research had been carried out in the province of Tucumán with the aim of searching, detecting and identifying men and women victims of enforced disappearance during the period between 1975 and 1983. Until the beginning of this millennium, no scientific research had been carried out in the province of Tucumán with the aim of searching, detecting and identifying men and women victims of enforced disappearance during the period between 1975 and 1983. Based on a local initiative stimulated by a variety of actors and institutions, on May 8, 2002, we detected in Tucumán what, later on, turned out to be the first clandestine burial found in Argentina: the socalled Pozo de Vargas. We present the preliminary results of the forensic archaeological work that enabled the nominal identification of 113 people up to mid 2019.
