This paper is presented as a conceptual review of the relationship between journalists and sources of information in political news. The aim is to contribute to the debates about the analysis of media coverage. It takes the coverage of the discussion and passing of the Ley de Servicios de Comunicación Audiovisual 26.522 made by the Argentine press specialized in business and economics as a case study for a theoretical reflection. Interviews were conducted to journalists from “Politics” and “Economy” sections in Ámbito Financiero and El Cronista Comercial, who participated in the coverage of the issue between March and October 2009. The theoretical analysis picks up contributions from different perspectives from journalism studies and political communication that have addressed the issue, with special emphasis on framing. From this approach, we propose an operationalization of standing, a concept originally understood as the ability of a social actor to have a voice in the media.Palabras Clave
