Resumen

Loyalty Peronist Youth was the name that a group of militants chose after deciding to leave the Peronist organization “Montoneros” during 1973 and 1974. By doing that, they expressed their disagreement with the political decisions that led the organization to a confrontation with Peron. This way, they became the most important split-off that Montoneros suffered throughout its history. However, the ‘loyal’ experience was brief, as they failed to articulate a new and solid organization with its own political weight in an agitated social and political context. The article analyses this failed militant experience, guided by the following questions: which were the conditions that led ‘the loyal’ to the split-off from Montoneros? Which were the main elements that characterized this group of dissident militants? Which were the difficulties they faced after the split-off? And lastly, which were the causes of the final dissolution of this group? To answer them, we will conduct interviews and analyse testimonial books, publications of the analysed timeframe, and previous academic articles. The articulation of these elements will allow a novel approach to the political experience of interest to this article, seeking to explain why it failed in its attempt to avoid the cleavage between Peronist left and right, to be simply ‘loyal to Peron’.
