This text reflects about Vaca Muerta megaproject, a geological formation rich in unconventional hydrocarbons that came as a public hope in Argentina both in the second government of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, and in the government of Mauricio Macri, in a geopolitical context and in a particular phase of the capitalist accumulation mode characterized by the production of extreme energy. Based on a qualitative orientation research and a socio-political approach to social inquiry, this paper aims to analyze the following dimensions: 1) the importance of Vaca Muerta in the government agenda and the public expectation for its development 2) the questions about the privileged technique for its exploitation, fracking 3) the existing questions regarding the economic and productive viability of the megaproject, as well as regarding its environmental and territorial effects, 4) the social resistances that arose around this activity. The paper contributes to a critical reflection on the different dimensions, levels and actors that, in an asymmetrical network of power, dispute, value and adopt opposing positions around a resource of substantive relevance in the present: energy.
