Intergenerational social relations are not innocuous; they are based on logics of power and domination that benefit adults, who only because they are older can make use of a set of privileges that children cannot. In order to analyze the existing power relations between adulthood and childhood as age classes, in this article we will offer some clarifications on the categories of adultcentrism and adultism. Regarding the former, we will share twelve theses that, we believe, help us to approach its definition and better understanding. Regarding the latter, we will give an account of its differences with the former and list thirteen ways in which it is expressed. Thus, from an intersectional perspective, we will seek to show how the violence suffered by children is linked to the multiple oppressions associated with the categories of class, race and gender. We conclude with the need for an integral transformation of an emancipatory character.
