Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is considered a public health problem. Despite the high prevalence and psychosocial impairment that can accompany GAD, recognition of symptoms is relatively low and often remains undetected. For this reason, this paper aims to explore the psychometric properties of the Argentine-Spanish translated version of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7). The 7-item scale measures the frequency, during the last 2 weeks, that the subjects manifested in each of the seven core symptoms of GAD. Based on a non-probabilistic sample, made up of 205 Argentine adults between 19 and 73 years (ME=40.3; SD=14.5) of both sexes (68.3% women and 31.7% men), the estimation of construct validity, internal consistency, and external validity was carried out. The CFA confirms that the unifactorial model fits the data collected in the field. The IFI, NNFI, and CFI achieved values greater than .99 and the RMSEA, around .04 figures, indicating a good fit of the model. The evaluation of the internal consistency of the instrument (?= .88 and ?=.92) shows adequate figures with both indicators. The external validity of the scale shows a strong and significant direct relationship with the constructs of the MINI IPIP neuroticism scale and with DERS-16. It is concluded that the present study provides sufficient evidence of validity and reliability for the application of this instrument in the local context.Palabras Clave
