BCG o Friedmann. Vacunas contra la tuberculosis en época de incertidumbre: Argentina década de 1930

During the 1930s and early 1940s, various vaccines intended to combat tuberculosis were part of the medical and institutional agenda. These were European -and to a lesser extent Asian and local- scientific developments. However, in the Argentine scientific arena, only two were part of efforts by doctors, politicians and institutions to impose them: BCG and Friedmann. This competition crystallized in discussions about the capacity of each one to fight tuberculosis. These disputes occurred in the academic sphere and at the state political level. In this article we intend to analyze the strategies that were carried out by the promoters of these two contemporary vaccines. Through medical publications in theses, magazines, books and state documentation, we will analyze the strategies that were generated in terms of the discussion and the efforts to impose them on the State at its various levels in the medical elite and in society.Palabras Clave
