Since the 1980s, the engagement to learning has gained relevance in the educational field. Research on the topic was carried out, almost exclusively, in academic contexts. The objective of the paper is to describe contextual aspects linked to the engagement to apprenticeships in non-formal educational settings. Data collection was carried out through interviews with participants and workshop leaders and through observations of the meetings in three job training sessions. In the contexts studied, the availability of resources, the engagement of the workshop facilitator, the opportunities that arose for the co-construction of socio-emotional competencies, the social stereotypes linked to learning and exercising the trade, and family support became relevant. In conclusions, the importance of attending to the interaction between personal and contextual aspects linked to the engagement to learning in areas of training for work is highlighted.Palabras Clave
