In this work we will delve into the field of the social studies of morality. We will pay attention to the origins of sociology of morality presenting the theory of one of the “founding fathers” of the sociological discipline: Émile Durkheim. Next, we will present some developments during XX & XXI centuries that we understand are especially central within that field, considering their contribution to the thematization and study of the moral dimensions of the social life: “moral division of labor” by Everett Hughes, “moral entrepreneurs” by Howard Becker, “moral panic” by Stanley Cohen and “moral capital” by Ariel Wilkis.
