The public opinion of pluralistic democracies is manifested against conformity. Public opinion associates that idea with a status quo that avoids changes and perpetuates the absence of response. In summary: the status quo represents negative immobility. The fact that the citizen public understands democracy as a regime of government open to change is antagonistic to the status quo. Therefore, many political analysts and actors see the populist phenomenon as a political force that drives changes to the status quo. Thus, this work analyzes the nature and scope of the metaphor “shaking the status quo.”Palabras Clave
