This paper studies the journey of La Atrevida frigate to Aurora Islands, this travel is framed in the second stay of the Malaspina expedition in the Malvinas Islands. La Atrevida’s voyage on January 1794, which registered and explained the existence of floating ice in the commercial route between Cadiz and Lima is taken as an example of knowledge production at the distance. The question of the usefulness of the knowledge produced by the Spanish voyage highlights the political appropriation of science by Spain in order to counteract the English advance in the South Atlantic.Palabras Clave
