The main goal of this work was to study the status of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) pollution in two estuarine areas from the Argentinean coast, the Mar Chiquita coastal lagoon (MC) and San Antonio Oeste Bay (SAO). Total concentrations in parts per billon (46 ng/ g organic carbon and 22 ng/g organic carbon in SAO and MC, respectively) were detected, indicating scarse industrial development in both areas. The pattern of distribution showed the predominance of tetra-, penta- and hexachlorinated congeners in MC (IUPAC # 52, 118, 153) and penta- and hexachlorinated IUPAC # 118 and 153 in SAO.
