Introduction:We demonstrated that zinc deficiency during fetal andpostnatal life induced cardiometabolic alterations in adult male rats.Zinc could play an import role attenuating these alterations due to itsantioxidant properties and the multiple functions in glucose metabolism. Objective:To evaluate the effect of postweaning zinc supplementationon intermediate metabolism, retroperitoneal adipose tissue(RAPT), plasma lipid peroxidation (TBARS) and systolic bloodpressure (SBP) in adult male Wistar rats fed a high fat and fructosediet during growth. Methods:Female rats were fed a control diet(C,30ppm) during the pregnancy and lactation periods. At day 21male offspring were weaned and randomly fed a control diet (CC,30ppm), high fat-control zinc diet and fructose 10% in drinking water(CHF, fat 60 % kcal, zinc: 30 ppm) or high fat-supplemented zinc dietand fructose 10% in drinking water (ZHF,190 ppm). At day 81 serummetabolic profiles, plasmatic TBARS, SBP and RPAT morphologywere evaluated. Values are mean±SEM. Two-way ANOVA,Bonferroni post-test:***p<0.001,**p<0.01,*p<0.05 VsCC;$$$p<0.001,$$p<0.01 Vs CGF (n=5). Results:High fat-controlzinc diet during postweaning growth induced an increase of bodyweight (CC:456±15; CHF:515±10*; ZHF:476±10 g), uricemia levels,TBARS and SBP compared to CC. Adipose tissue from CHF showedhigher weight (CC:1.4±0.1;CHF:3.1±0.4***;ZHF:2.7±0.1g) andadipocyte area (CC:4705±193; CHF:7450±838**;ZHF:7435±484μm2) than CC. Zinc supplementation reversed TBARS(CC:3.1±0.2;CHF:12.1±1.6***;ZHF:2.5±0,7$$$ nmol TBARS/ml),glycemia (CC:119±4,CHF:140±5**,ZHF:125±2$$mg/dl),uricemia(CC:0.9±0.1;CHF:1.9±0.3*;ZHF:1.0±0.1$$mg/dl) and showed lowerSBP levels (CC:133±2;CHF:159±2*;ZHF:144±1$$mmHg) than CHF.Conclusions:High fat and fructose diet during postweaning growthinduced cardiometabolic alterations in adult life. Zinc supplementationattenuated cardiometabolic damage associated with metabolicsyndrome. Información suministrada por el agente en SIGEVAPalabras Clave
