Resumen *

In 2020 Argentina faced the third consecutive year of recession. The contraction of economic activity is accompanied by a large fiscal deficit, high public debt, rising unemployment and poverty rates, continuous depreciation of the local currency, and runaway inflation. These structural problems added to the important size of the informal economy - about a third of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) (Schneider & Boockmann, 2017)- pose a difficult initial outlook to face the crisis generated by COVID-19. The coronavirus disease pandemic is expected to have diverse effects on a phenomenon as complex as informality. In particular, this paper aims to describe the impact of the pandemic crisis on informality in Argentina, based on the perception of commercial entrepreneurs and certified public accountants (CPAs).
