An interruption or decrease in the blood supply to the brain can reduces the flow of oxygenand nutrients necessary to maintain normal cellular functioning. The damage that occurs inthe tissue depends on the location, size and duration. When a blood clot occludes a brainvessel by reducing blood flow to a specific region of the brain, focal cerebral damage occurs, increasing the risk of cell death in that particular area. The death of neuronal cells in acertain region changes the receptive fields of neurons surrounding the damaged tissue andinhibitory neurons can produce changes in plasticity that affects the abilities of the neuronalpopulation in a given region. In this work we developed a simple computational model thattakes into account a damage area in a neuronal population and investigated the effects oninformation transmission.
