Global History and the Idea of Universal History

Summary *

 In this paper I propose a counterpoint between the concepts of global history and universal history. For the latter, I will turn to the tradition of classical philosophy of history; hence the expression “the idea of universal history” refers to a conceptual construction that owes a great deal to the development of a rational view of the totality of historical evolution.
