Our objective is tocompile updated, systematic and orderly information about the geochemical groups, thelocations and the most outstanding characteristics of the obsidian deposits in this area.To achieve this goal an exhaustive review of archaeological and geological antecedents, both published and unpublished was carried out. The results indicate 30 geochemicalgroups and more than 50 obsidian deposits in Patagonian territory, most of them alreadyknown in the archaeological studies, but eight identified only in geological reportswhich have not been archeologically discussed until now. Nine deposits are stillgeochemical unknown. Significant variations are observed in the locations of thedeposit and the distribution of the geochemical types. Finally, we propose the need togenerate geoarchaeological-based programs to enhance the scope of these studies.
