Based on a new collection of fossil mammals, the age of the Quaternary sequence cropping out at Arroyo Toropí is discussed. The mammal bearing strata are thought to be of Lujanian age (late Pleistocene). This fauna developed in an arid or semiarid setting defining a zoogeographical area shared between Pampean and Southbrasilian species.
