In the 73rd edition of Despertador Teofilantrópico Místico-Político, which came to light once the friar was already back in Buenos Aires, Castañeda published an extensive text about his exile. This article analyzes the different reading scenes that compose this narrative and their link to other representations of reading practices that appear in the author's publications. In all cases, they are figures in which reading takes place in contexts of material and symbolic deficiency, drawing a picture of Castañeda not only as a newspaper writer but also as a book reader.
