Towards the beginning of the 20th century, the indigenous populations of La Pampa and Nordpatagonia territories now incorporated into Argentine jurisdiction, began – after a period of confinement and dissolution of the majority of the families to obtain lands for their settlement. In the National Territory of The Pampa, the ranqueles achieved the foundation of Colonia Emilio Mitre (in the Northwest of the Territory), but at the same time that national agents (police, educational authorities, officials of the Direction of Lands and Colonies, among others) had their own strategies to ensure their subordinated integration into national society, the natives sought to install schools and improve their own living conditions, and make use of their contacts with the settler society to improve their positions, establishing networks of personal relations that ensured allegiances and reciprocal favors. In this paper we analyze interactions between these actors, and the building of negotiation fields across the web of social networks at Emilio Mitre. In the first part, theoretical and methodological considerations are developed, a second part deals briefly with the conditions of the peopling of the colony and provides information about the main actors who appear in the documents, while the third and principal stretch of the text is devoted to examine the characteristics the construction of social relationships.
