The "cacerolazo" of November 8th, 2012 is difficult to categorize due to the complex environmental conditions that differentiates it from other protests, in particular those that occurred in 2001/2002. After an election in which Cristina Kirchner obtained 54% of the vote, the government developed a series of policies that particularly irritated middle class sectors of society. Apart from this, a decision made by the Supreme Court of Justice put on the public agenda the possibility that the Ley de Medios Audiovisuals (Law regulating the audio-visual media) be fully applied, a factor that enhanced the confrontation between the Government and the concentrated media group Clarin. Sectors of the middle class showed their disconformities all along the year 2012 until they openly protested massively at the beginning of November. In this paper we investigate the reasons for this massive protest and we try to understand the extent to which the institutional concerns of the protestors appear to be highly related to the political and media discourse of sectors of the opposition.Key Words
