In this article we present a state of the art about the social and historical studies of football in Argentina. We review the founding topics of the field in the country during the eighties and nineties, to then delve into the emergence of new lines of research. We highlight the current empirical, theoretical and methodological development of the studies, from new perspectives, questions and interests. In this article we present a state of the art about the social and historical studies of football in Argentina. We highlight the current empirical, theoretical and methodological development of the studies, from new perspectives, questions and interests. Subsequently, we review some of the historical research in this field of study in Patagonia, paying attention to the particularities and contributions of regional production. On the other hand, we put in tensión the current development of the social studies of sport with the effects of the media campaign carried out against certain research in the social and human sciences between 2016 and 2019, in the framework of a crisis in the scientific-technological system of the country. Finally, we propose a reflection on the social and historical studies of sports in Argentina, pointing out some challenges in the field.
