We present material evidence and interpretations related to the presence of European traditional techniques within the architecture of late colonial mining settlements in Puna of Jujuy. Splayed openings, arches, and false arches forming openings and niches, and herring-bone masonry were considered. The objective was to characterize the techniques, to identifying how they were incorporated into the settlements, that is, in what kind of spaces and contexts they were arranged, and to proposing thus interpretations about the ways they participated in the relationships between indigenous-mestizo populations and Spaniard agents. The study is mainly based on sites located in the towns of Antiguyoc, Ajedrez, and Santo Domingo, all of them part of the Rinconada parish in the last quarter of the 18th century. In addition, we include nearby and contemporary mining settlements in the Coyahuaima valley, which are jurisdictionally dependent on corregimiento of Atacama.
