The advances in the eradication of child malnutrition in the Latin American region are relevant. Argentina is one of the best positioned countries in relation to this problem, but it registers persistent geographical imbalances that arise in children in the northwest and northeast. This article focuses on nutritional indicators in Santiago del Estero, a structurally poor northwestern province, and on a population of children with nutritional problems that have taken part in a comprehensive social intervention carried out by the Haciendo Camino Civil Association. Based on the administrative records of this association (2010-2022), an analysis of the particular nutritional deficiencies of the children participating in the social intervention is carried out. Among the main findings, the increase in overweight and obesity problems stands out, the greater impact of social intervention on nutritional risk and overweight, and the limits of the intervention to influence stunting and severe stunting, which are more frequent in children under one year of age, and in severe malnutrition. One of the main challenges faced by social interventions is to avoid the high rate of abandonment and intermittent treatment.Palabras Clave
