The article analyzes the coincident/divergent discourses of the Trópico newspaper, owned by the National University of Tucumán, regarding the official sugar policy and the industry (1947-1950). A fundamental function of the newspaper was the study of regional problems. It also aimed to propose solutions, practicing “constructive journalism”. It focuses on the sugar industry and its economic and noneconomic importance. Firstly, it stands for the hypothesis that Trópico was an official media interested in influencing the execution of the sugar policy through the analysis of the problems and the proposal of solutions. However, some of their analyzes show differences regarding official policy, showing a certain degree of autonomy from the government.Key Words
