The gene Seven In Absentia Like 7 (At5g37890, SINAL7) encodes a RING finger protein that demonstrates E3 ubiquitin ligase activity. In plants, SINAT5, a paralog of SINAL7, promotes ubiquitination-mediated degradation of NAC1 to modulate auxin signals. The most important auxin is 3-indole-acetic acid (IAA), which plays a role in the establishment and formation of leaves, flowers, and roots through cell division. Previously, homozygous mutant lines of A. thaliana with reduced SINAL7 expression were characterized. SALK_096989, designated as 989, and CS833574, designated as CS3, both showed DNA-T insertions in the second and first exons, respectively. These mutant lines exhibited a deficiency in fruiting, with 10% more aberrant siliques and a 45% reduction in seed quantity. SINAL7 is homologous to SINAT5, and given that sinal7 mutants displayed alterations in reproductive development, it is proposed to investigate the relationship between SINAL7 and the auxin IAA in silique development.
