Desde un comienzo, mis estudios estuvieron destinados a generar conocimiento sobre la dinámica de los pastizales pampeanos frente a disturbios, naturales y antrópicos, y a reconocer los mecanismos subyacentes a los cambios en la estructura y el funcionamiento de los agroecosistemas Con los años incrementó mi interés por comprender el papel de las simbiosis entre plantas y microorganismos en la estructuración de las comunidades y determinar qué factores o procesos regulan su persistencia en diferentes contextos. Me he concentrado en comprender el significado de la simbiosis entre pastos y hongos endofitos asexuales (Epichloe spp, hasta hace poco Neotyphodium spp, Clavicipitaceae) en diferentes componentes y procesos del ecosistema. Adopté diversas aproximaciones (experimentos mensurativos y manipulativos a campo, en invernáculo y en microcosmos) para medir interacciones entre fac¬tores bióticos y abióticos que determinan patrones en distintos niveles de organización y escalas de tiempo.
