La horticultura es vital para la economía, generando ingresos, empleo y seguridad alimentaria, y promoviendo la salud al proveer de frutas y verduras. En Argentina, el tomate es la segunda hortaliza más importante y modelo de estudio para el fitomejoramiento. Mi proyecto se enfoca en predecir genes asociados al desarrollo y morfología de frutos hortícolas usando visión por computadora e inteligencia artificial (IA). El objetivo es construir una base de datos de imágenes de tomate con metadatos genéticos y diseñar herramientas que asistan en la selección de genotipos, acelerando el fitomejoramiento. Al combinar recursos genómicos y técnicas de IA, buscamos entender las bases genéticas de la calidad del fruto y generar nuevos materiales adaptados a las demandas locales. Esto beneficiará a productores y empresas de semillas, impulsando una agricultura más eficiente y sostenible. Soy Ing. Agrónoma y Dra en Ciencias Agrarias especializada en Bioinformática, y docente en la Genética en la UNR.
