Mi campo de trabajo y de investigación es la teoría sociológica clásica y contemporánea. Me especializo en la teoría de sistemas sociales y mi objeto de investigación es la sociedad moderna y su evolución. Adicionalmente, he realizado estudios acerca de América Latina y su lugar en la modernidad y la sociedad mundial.
