Mis primeras áreas de investigación fueron la orientación a objetos, en particular diseño con frameworks, e hipermedia. Luego desarrollé mi experticia en el área de patrones de diseño. Mis primeras áreas de investigación fueron la orientación a objetos, en particular diseño con frameworks, e hipermedia. Luego desarrollé mi experticia en el área de patrones de diseño. Con mis estudios de postgrado en la Univ. de Illinois en Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), bajo la dirección del Dr. Ralph Johnson, me especialicé en el área de refactoring. Mi tesis de Master fue la primera en proponer la aplicación del refactoring a un lenguaje estructurado como C. Mi tesis de Doctorado se enfoca en integrar las directivas al preprocesador de C durante el análisis y el refactoring de programas. En mi postdoctorado en UIUC trabajé en la especificación y verificación formal del refactoring junto al Dr. José Meseguer. Desde mi reinserción como investigadora en el país me he especializado en la aplicación del refactoring en el área de interfaces humano-computador, específicamente la evolución del software dentro de procesos de desarrollo ágil, con especial foco en la mejora de la experiencia de usuario.
