Mis intereses y experiencia en investigación en la temática de biotecnología del medioambiente incluyen los procesos de biodegradación de hidrocarburos en aplicaciones in-situ y ex-situ, y la evaluación de ambientes hídricos y costeras contaminados. Me he dedicado al estudio de bacterias y consorcios microbianos capaces de degradar compuestos tóxicos y su aplicación en la biorremediación de efluentes industriales y sitios contaminados, principalmente con hidrocarburos derivados del petróleo; a la aplicación de biorreactores para tratar corrientes de efluentes líquidos y residuos y la optimización de las condiciones de biodegradación y estudio de tratamiento biológico de residuos industriales. En estas actividades utilizo herramientas de química, tales como cromatografía gaseosa (CG-FID y CG-MS) para análisis de hidrocarburos y otros compuestos; de microbiología tales como recuento de microorganismos y análisis moleculares, y de ingeniería, tales como diseño y operación de biorreactores.
