El estudio de las interacciones entre plantas y abejas puede conocerse a través del análisis palinológico de las reservas de polen y miel en nidos de diferentes grupos de abejas (superfamilia Apoidea), así como también del polen adherido en diversas partes del cuerpo de estos insectos polinizadores. Mediante este estudio puede conocerse el grado de especificidad o especialización de las abejas hacia ciertos linajes de plantas, lo que tiene importancia ecológica y agronómica en cuanto a su rol como polinizadores de especies de interés (cultivos, plantas nativas en peligro de extinción). Otra de las aplicaciones se encuentran en el desarrollo de la Meliponicultura (cría racional de abejas nativas de la tribu Meliponini o meliponas) para obtención de miel, polen y otros productos de la colmena. *Information provided by the agent in SIGEVALines of Investigation
