La microfluídica comprende la ciencia y la tecnología de la manipulación de fluidos en dispositivos artificiales donde los canales, válvulas y orificios tienen diámetros menores al milímetro, y los volúmenes involucrados son menores al microlitro. Las tecnologías derivadas con aplicaciones analíticas se denominan laboratorios en chips o lab-on-a-chip. Estos microsistemas permiten prevenir diseminación de enfermedades, evaluar resultados de tratamientos y controlar el uso de medicamentos in situ, aumentando la eficiencia y disminuyendo considerablemente los costos de asistencia sanitaria. El objetivo general de mi trabajo es el desarrollo de modelos matemáticos y métodos numéricos originales para la simulación de fenómenos de transporte en medios porosos y con superficie libre orientados al diseño y desarrollo de dispositivos de microfluídica con aplicaciones analíticas (lab-on-a-chip). *Information provided by the agent in SIGEVA
