Las áreas de experticia comprenden la virología molecular y biología celular de la interacción huésped-patógeno. Específicamente, se manipulan clones infecciosos de virus con genoma de RNA como los virus de chikungunya y dengue con el fin de generar virus recombinantes para comprender los determinantes de la invasión y propagación de la infección. En base a estos conocimientos se trabaja en el diseño y desarrollo de estrategias antivirales (drogas y vacunas) y de diagnóstico de enfermedades.
